If one of your online contacts has posted a “do not disturb” or other such online status, respect that and leave him or her alone. That person could be involved in another activity that won’t allow for chatting or other such activities.

We all know about the damage that viruses and other malicious code can cause our computers. It can be just a small irritant all the way up to complete computer failure. We lose productivity and often time and money, as we have to spend time (and money) to remove and repair damage caused by viruses.

Many people often overlook a seemly innocent way viruses are transmitted: via a USB device. Because of their small size and easy of use, USB drives are often found to contain viruses that are the transmitted between machines.

Anytime you are planning to use a USB drive, make sure that you scan it with anti-virus software. You should do this before trying to access any data on the drive.

If you don’t have access to anti-virus software on a particular machine that you need to use a USB device with you can check for and eliminate them using commands from your DOS command line.

Basically you will use the “attrib –r –a –s –h*.*” command to reveal all the files on the drive without actually activating any viruses. You will then view the details of the devices so you can examine the contents.

You should delete any files on your USB device called “Autorun.inf” as these are viruses. Also, delete any folders you did not create or transfer to the drive. Viruses often disguise themselves a folders with names such as “system volume” or even “applications.”

Taking care to eliminate virus risk will keep your computers clean and running smoothly.

Instant messaging and online chatting can be entertaining and a lot of fun. You may find yourself reconnecting with old friends, or even finding new ones. However, because of the openness of this medium, you should take some care about your chat experiences. In addition, if you have children, you want to make sure that their online chat experiences do not put them in harms way.

First, understand that not everyone out there has the best intentions. You’ll see many instances of scams and cons. Unfortunately, a lot of these people use chat rooms to find their victims. Here are a few tips to help protect you and your family when chatting online.

Keep a tiny bit of skepticism in your mind when you are chatting with someone you may not know too well. Scammers prey upon people’s emotions. They are especially attracted to people’s weaknesses and needs. These people can also be very good liars, so take a lot of what is said online with a grain of salt.

If you are engaging in an online dating relationship, make sure that you pay attention if something just doesn’t feel right or if the information or stories you are being given by that person just doesn’t seem logical. Make sure you do a little bit of research. Don’t be blinded by stories that seem too good to be true.

Don’t give out personal information unless you feel completely secure with the person you are chatting with. Don’t give out this information that includes your name, phone number and address to just anyone.
